Yet time does not stand still, and across Europe, changes are making life increasingly difficult for many. Refugees are on the move, and even within Caroline’s circle, some are contemplating pastures new. Family tensions come to the fore: can Caroline once again come to her friends’ aid when they need her?

In this sixth instalment of the Catching Up series, echoes of the past begin to surface. Racism, antisemitism and the distrust of strangers all create problems for the characters we’re following on this journey. Caroline’s ability to see the best in people is tested, and does not always rub off on those closest to her.
